There are some cities that don't seem to mind being the biggest greenhouse supplier as far as our atmosphere goes. Most of those cities are located in the undeveloped world (sorry if you feel sensitive to that, but take a look at the Santo Domingo skyline one morning and the truth is undeniable) but there are a few in the United States as well. People in Vancouver Washington, though, can be very proud of their city's efforts to keep the planet we live in in the best shape possible.
The city sponsors several initiatives aimed at keeping itself clean and decreasing the output of emissions it contributes on a regular basis. Some of the programs are focused on the conservation of water, some on other environmental initiatives. We are going to take a look at a few of them below, programs which may change the way you look at tray packaging in the city of Vancouver forever.
One of the biggest concerns within the city right now is keeping the area's irreplaceable wetlands and marshes healthy for future generations. A look at the Gulf of Mexico shows just how important it is to make sure that our coastal areas stay clean not only for the sake of conscience, but for our livelihoods as well. To ensure that there is no need for septic tank pump trucks to come in and clean up oil spills in the areas, there are very strict city guidelines about who can dump what and where in the areas in and around the city of Vancouver.
Two programs deal with the groundwater that not only seeps into these marshes and estuaries, but also provide us with most of the potable resources we need on a regular basis. The first is the water resources protection program. This initiative regulates which wastewater treatment chemicals companies need to use in order to ensure clean water being returned to the ground. The water all around us program educates residents and businesses alike in water issues including erosion and watersheds.
When you hear forestry in Washington, you usually think lumber banding machines and other kinds of industrial applications. However, the urban forestry program in Vancouver offers something unique. Regulations and coordination of tree planting are the names of the game here, in an effort to help those urban forests continue to thrive.
Hurray for cities like Vancouver, which go the extra mile to make sure the planet will still be in good shape generations from now.
